About the role
UNICEF is seeking a Health Specialist to lead social and behavioural change (SBC) interventions that support Nigeria’s polio eradication plan. The role involves designing, managing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating SBC and social‑mobilisation activities to increase demand for polio vaccination and routine immunisation.
Key responsibilities
- Design, manage, implement, monitor and evaluate SBC and social‑mobilisation interventions for polio eradication.
- Interrupt poliovirus transmission through evidence‑based SBC strategies.
- Generate demand for polio vaccination and routine immunisation.
- Address vaccine hesitancy, refusals, missed children and other behavioural barriers.
- Support vaccination campaigns and sustain engagement between rounds.
- Provide technical assistance during polio outbreak responses.
- Contribute to other health interventions as required.
- Develop SBC strategies, implement interventions, and provide technical and operational support.
- Engage in advocacy, networking and partnership building.
Required profile
- Advanced university degree in social and behavioural change communication, public health, health promotion, community health, sociology, anthropology, psychology, biomedical sciences or related social/behavioural sciences.
- Preferably includes training in participatory communication, communication planning, social mobilisation or participatory research.
- Minimum eight years of progressively responsible professional experience in health communication, social‑behavioural change or related fields.
