Government Relations Director – Financial Services

About the role
The Government Relations (GR) Director will lead Renmoney’s engagement with regulatory bodies, policymakers and government agencies to support the company’s business objectives. This senior position acts as a strategic enabler for growth, including securing a national licence, launching new products and expanding geographically.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with ministries, regulatory agencies (e.g., CBN, NDIC, NIBSS, FCCPC, NITDA), legislative bodies and industry associations.
- Represent the bank in meetings, consultations and public hearings related to the financial services sector.
- Build partnerships with industry stakeholders to align common policy positions and expand relationships with state‑level regulators for branch licensing and operational permits.
- Engage tax authorities (FIRS, LIRS) on evolving tax policies affecting operations.
- Track, interpret and advise senior management on new laws, regulations and government initiatives affecting banking and fintech.
- Coordinate with Compliance and Legal teams to ensure alignment with regulatory expectations and establish an early‑warning system for policy changes.
- Develop advocacy strategies, prepare position papers and participate in consultations to shape regulatory outcomes.
- Provide regular updates to executive leadership on political, economic and regulatory trends and advise on strategic opportunities and risks.
Required profile
- Proven experience building relationships with regulatory bodies such as CBN, NDIC, NIBSS, FCCPC and NITDA.
- Demonstrated ability to influence policy and navigate complex government environments.
- Strong analytical skills to assess regulatory impact on business strategy.
