GIS Officer – Spatial Data & Conservation Support

About the role

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Nigeria program is seeking a Geographic Information System (GIS) Officer to provide technical support in spatial data management, mapping and analysis. The role will help strengthen biodiversity monitoring, law‑enforcement support and overall conservation planning across protected areas in Nigeria.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and maintain GIS databases containing spatial information on wildlife habitats, protected areas and conservation projects.
• Create, update and quality‑check maps and spatial products for monitoring, law‑enforcement and stakeholder communication.
• Conduct spatial analyses to identify trends, threats and opportunities for biodiversity conservation.
• Collaborate with field teams, scientists and partners to integrate GIS outputs into conservation strategies.
• Provide technical assistance and training to staff on GIS tools and best practices.

Required profile

• At least one month of experience working with GIS or related spatial data tasks.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary conservation environment.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data handling.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
