Freelance PR Specialist

About the role

University of the People is seeking an experienced PR professional based in Nigeria to drive local media coverage. The role focuses on the Nigerian market and reports to the global Head of PR, working remotely on a freelance, part‑time basis.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and localise story angles about University of the People for Nigerian media.
• Draft and adapt press releases, pitches, and op‑eds tailored to local outlets.
• Build and maintain relationships with education, business, and general news journalists.
• Secure interviews and feature opportunities for University of the People spokespeople.
• Monitor media coverage and provide a brief monthly outreach/coverage report.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience in PR, communications, or media relations in Nigeria.
• Existing relationships or strong familiarity with Nigerian media (print, online, broadcast).
• Demonstrated track record of securing earned media coverage.
• Excellent writing and communication skills in English; knowledge of local languages is a plus.
• Experience with education, nonprofit, or social‑impact organisations is advantageous.
• Self‑starter, comfortable working remotely and independently.
