Electrical Field Engineer – Generator Systems

About the role

Our client, a leading power generator company headquartered in Victoria Island, Lagos, is seeking a qualified Electrical Field Engineer. The role delivers electrical installation, commissioning, maintenance and fault‑repair on diesel and gas generator systems across fleet, project and service contracts, working both in the workshop and on client sites.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out preventive and corrective electrical maintenance across the generator fleet to maximise uptime.
• Diagnose and repair faults on control panels, AVRs, alternators/excitation, ATS/AMF, protection relays and battery/charging systems.
• Maintain accurate service records and fault reports for each unit.
• Install and terminate generator control panels, cabling, distribution boards and change‑over systems on project sites.
• Commission generators – set up controllers, synchronisation, load sharing and perform load‑bank/performance testing.
• Interpret electrical drawings and single‑line diagrams and support handover documentation.
• Attend client sites under service contracts for scheduled servicing and breakdown response.
• Troubleshoot electrical site issues quickly and safely, minimising client downtime.
• Advise clients and complete service checklists and reports.

Required profile

• B.Eng in Electrical / Electrical & Electronics Engineering (full engineering degree required).
• Minimum 5 years’ post‑graduation experience with diesel and gas generator electrical systems.
• COREN / NSE registration (or working towards it) is an advantage.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to sites.

Required skills

• Electrical installation and commissioning of generator systems.
• Preventive and corrective maintenance of LV & MV power systems.
• Fault diagnosis and repair of control panels, relays, AVRs, alternators, ATS/AMF and battery systems.
• Reading and interpreting electrical drawings and single‑line diagrams.
• Load‑bank testing and performance verification.
• Experience with generator control and distribution panels, synchronisation and protection.
