Diesel and Light Fleet Mechanic

About the role

The Diesel and Light Fleet Mechanic will ensure the reliability and safety of our diesel trucks, vans, buses and light‑duty vehicles operating within the shipping and logistics network. Working in a busy workshop, you will perform routine servicing, diagnose faults and carry out repairs to keep the fleet running efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct scheduled servicing, oil changes, filter replacements and brake servicing on all fleet vehicles.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and engine‑related faults using diagnostic tools.
• Inspect engines, transmissions, suspension, steering, braking and cooling systems and record all work performed.
• Respond to breakdowns, provide roadside or emergency repairs, and coordinate with the Fleet/Transport Manager on maintenance priorities.
• Maintain accurate service logs, manage spare‑part inventory and ensure workshop safety and cleanliness.

Required profile

• OND, Technical Certificate, Trade Test or equivalent in Mechanical/Automobile Engineering or Motor Vehicle Mechanics.
• At least two years of hands‑on experience in fleet maintenance or automotive repair, with proven work on diesel engines and light‑duty vehicles.
• Strong knowledge of diesel and petrol engine systems, brakes, transmissions, suspension, steering, cooling and electrical systems.
• Ability to read basic service manuals and follow manufacturer maintenance recommendations.
