Customs Clearance and Delivery Officer

About the role

The Customs Clearance and Delivery Officer will manage the end‑to‑end import process for medical commodities, ensuring that all documentation, regulatory approvals and logistics are handled efficiently and in compliance with donor and national requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, verify and submit all import documents such as Bills of Lading, Air Waybills, invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin and import permits.
• Liaise with the Federal Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health, customs authorities and port health services to secure timely cargo clearance.
• Coordinate inland transportation and distribution of cleared goods to central medical stores, regional warehouses, laboratories and health facilities.
• Develop and maintain shipment tracking, delivery schedules and distribution plans, ensuring cold‑chain integrity for temperature‑sensitive items.
• Monitor shipment progress, resolve clearance bottlenecks, minimise demurrage and other logistics costs.
• Supervise third‑party logistics providers, customs brokers and transport contractors against agreed KPIs.
• Stay updated on changes to customs and import regulations and advise management on compliance implications.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with at least 7 years (84 months) of experience in customs clearance, import logistics or related fields.
• Strong knowledge of Nigerian import regulations, donor requirements and Good Distribution Practices (GDP).
• Proven ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships, including government agencies and logistics partners.
