About the role
The United Nations Volunteers programme is seeking a Climate Change Specialist to support UNICEF Nigeria’s efforts to mitigate the impact of climate change on children and communities. Working under the Climate Change Lead, you will help integrate climate‑resilient measures across multiple UNICEF programmes.
Key responsibilities
- Integrate adaptation, mitigation and resilience actions into health, nutrition, WASH, education, child protection and social policy programmes.
- Support implementation of the Climate Landscape Analysis for Children (CLAC) Action Plan and related initiatives.
- Facilitate coordination with government agencies, UN bodies, civil society, academia, development partners and youth networks.
- Assist with climate finance initiatives, policy dialogues, technical meetings, workshops and stakeholder consultations.
- Conduct research, climate risk analyses, document best practices and develop knowledge products.
- Monitor programme implementation, track climate‑related indicators, conduct field visits and contribute to reports, presentations and advocacy materials.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Environment, Climate, Energy, Development Studies or a related field.
- Minimum three years of professional experience in climate change, climate finance, policy, coordination, youth engagement or knowledge management.
- Experience working with government institutions, UN agencies, development partners, civil society or community‑based organisations.
- Fluent English with strong analytical, research, monitoring, reporting and documentation abilities.
