Assistant Professor / Senior Lecturer – Law

About the role

The School of Law at the American University of Nigeria seeks an experienced academic to join as an Assistant Professor or Senior Lecturer. The role combines teaching, research, and community service to support the university’s mission of developing critical thinkers and effective communicators.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate and graduate law courses and supervise student learning inside and outside the classroom.
• Conduct and publish research that advances legal scholarship and supports teaching initiatives.
• Participate in community service projects and university development activities.
• Ensure student attendance, monitor assignment completion, and enforce class policies.
• Provide academic advising and mentorship to students throughout the semester.
• Attend departmental, school, and college meetings to facilitate communication and operations.
• Participate in faculty and all‑college meetings and other academic functions as required.

Required profile

• PhD in Law from a reputable university.
• Minimum six (6) years of teaching and research experience at a recognized university.
• Verified publications in reputable local and international peer‑reviewed journals.
• Demonstrated contribution to curriculum development and academic service.
• Proficiency with ICT tools and e‑resources for teaching and research.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to adapt to changing workplace circumstances.
• Membership of the Nigerian Bar Association.
