Assistant Geotechnical Laboratory Technician

About the role

A client of Proten International is recruiting a full-time Assistant Geotechnical Laboratory Technician in Lagos to support laboratory operations, geological sample preparation, testing and data analysis. The post holder receives and prepares samples, maintains equipment, runs assigned tests, documents results and ensures compliance with procedures, safety standards and quality requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, label, catalogue and safely store geological samples; collect and prepare soil, rock and other specimens according to SOPs.
• Conduct assigned laboratory tests, choose appropriate testing procedures and record results, compiling data and preparing reports.
• Maintain equipment records, daily work logs, laboratory databases and other technical documentation.
• Set up, clean, maintain and recalibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
• Keep the laboratory clean, organised and safe, and handle materials and specimens properly.
• Support laboratory research, including material collection, cataloguing and coordination, and perform other duties assigned by the Team Lead.

Required profile

• B.Sc. in Geology or an applied science such as Chemistry or Physics.
• 3-5 years of experience as a laboratory technician, preferably in a geotechnical, geological or related testing laboratory.
• Minimum of a Second Class Lower degree from a recognised institution.
• Ability to conduct tests, handle specimens and operate laboratory equipment.
• Commitment to the company's Health and Safety, Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct policies.

Required skills

• Familiarity with basic geological software and computer applications for analysing samples and interpreting data.
• Report writing, documentation and filing skills.
• Organisational and time-management skills, strong attention to detail and scientific reasoning.

What we offer

• Salary of N200,000 - N250,000 net per month.
• Leave allowance, HMO and appraisal bonuses.
• Weekly site transportation allowance and 13th-month salary.
