Accounting Officer

About the role

We are seeking an Accounting Officer to manage daily financial transactions, maintain ledger integrity, and support month‑end closing activities for our banking and finance operations in Kano.

Key responsibilities

• Record daily sales, purchases, expenses, receipts, payments and standard journal entries, ensuring correct period cut‑off and supporting documentation.
• Maintain the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers, verifying accurate classification by account code, entity, customer, supplier, cost centre, project and currency.
• Execute regular bank reconciliations and reconcile balance‑sheet accounts, investigating unidentified items and driving open items to resolution.
• Perform month‑end closing tasks, prepare supporting schedules and audit files, and enforce adherence to the chart of accounts and internal control frameworks.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance or a related field; professional certifications such as ACCA or CPA are a plus.
• 3–4 years of relevant experience in accounting, financial control or audit, preferably in transaction‑heavy or multi‑entity environments.
• Strong analytical and investigative mindset with high attention to detail and integrity.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ERP or enterprise accounting software.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel for data verification, look‑ups and reconciliation schedules.
