About the role
FHI 360 UK‑Nigeria is seeking an Accountant to support finance operations for its humanitarian programmes in Borno State, Nigeria. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the role will ensure accurate bookkeeping, financial reporting and compliance with donor and contractual requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Assist the Finance Manager in maintaining accurate books of accounts, including equipment and supply registers.
- Support preparation of monthly and annual financial reports and accompanying bank documentation.
- Monitor sub‑project budgets against approved work plans.
- Analyse periodic expenditures and produce ad‑hoc financial reports.
- Provide assistance in cash advances, petty‑cash management and refunds.
- Prepare fiscal year budgets and enter them into FHI’s accounting software.
- Create, update and maintain financial spreadsheets.
Required profile
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Experience supporting finance managers in donor‑funded projects.
- Ability to ensure compliance with contractual and programmatic financial requirements.
Required skills
- Proficiency with accounting software used by FHI 360.
- Ability to prepare and manage financial spreadsheets.
