Account Director – Nigeria

About the role

Woodrow is seeking an entrepreneurial and independent communications consultant to join as an early member of its Nigeria team. The senior role will help build the West Africa presence from the ground up while delivering high‑quality work for major clients from day one.

Key responsibilities

• Act as trusted adviser to senior clients, providing strategic communications counsel, messaging and media positioning.
• Lead day‑to‑day client relationships in Nigeria, overseeing commercial success, strategic direction and client satisfaction.
• Shape and deliver integrated communications plans for sectors such as financial services, healthcare, development finance and corporate communications.
• Build and maintain strong media relationships across business, financial, healthcare and national news outlets.
• Identify and develop new business opportunities to grow Woodrow’s reputation and market share in Nigeria and West Africa.
• Collaborate with Woodrow teams in Nairobi, London and New York to deliver integrated client work and support Kenya‑based workstreams.
• Provide operational oversight of client accounts, including reporting, resourcing and profitability.
• Mentor and nurture team members as the Nigeria practice expands.

Required profile

• 8–10 years of experience in strategic communications, corporate affairs, public relations or related advisory roles.
• Deep knowledge of Nigeria’s media landscape and existing relationships with national, business, financial, healthcare and development media.
• Sector expertise in financial services, banking, development finance, healthcare or related fields.
• Proven ability to advise senior stakeholders, shape strategy and manage complex or sensitive situations.
• Strong writing and editing skills with a track record of producing high‑quality client materials.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with experience building new market practices and generating new business.
• Ability to operate independently, manage ambiguity and collaborate across international teams.
