About the role
The Nigerian Ports Authority is seeking qualified candidates for a range of trainee and officer positions across its major ports in Lagos, Port‑Harcourt, Onne, Warri and Calabar. Roles include pilot trainee, marine engineering trainee, trainee seaman, signalman‑in‑training, radio officer, assistant manager (radio), marine officer, senior marine officer/engineer and assistant manager (harbours).
Key responsibilities
- Maintain Radio/VTS equipment and ensure optimal operation of communication facilities.
- Monitor the quality of radio communications and compliance with maritime safety standards.
- Support port operations and maritime navigation as required by the specific position.
Required profile
- Relevant academic qualification – e.g., OND in Nautical Science/Marine Engineering, BSc/HND in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or Information Technology.
- Seafarer’s Medical Certificate and mandatory maritime certificates (STCW’95, GMDSS where applicable).
- West African Senior Secondary School Certificate or equivalent.
- Age limits vary by position (18‑35 years depending on role).
Required skills
- Knowledge of ICT (information and communications technology).
- Standard for Training Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW’95).
- Proficiency with Global Maritime Distress Safety System (GMDSS).
- Operation and maintenance of Radio/VTS equipment.
