Technical Superintendent – Vessel Maintenance

About the role

The Technical Superintendent will oversee day‑to‑day maintenance and repair activities for vessels assigned by Smit Lamnalco, ensuring technical reliability, budget compliance and optimal fleet utilisation. Based in Onne (Port Harcourt) the role operates on an 8‑week on/8‑week off rotation.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and execute preventive maintenance programmes aboard assigned vessels.
• Supervise and coach chief engineers to align technical management with company standards.
• Manage repair projects, oversee crew and subcontractors, and ensure work meets planning, budget and quality requirements.
• Allocate and control costs related to repairs, dockings, damages and modifications.
• Promote and monitor Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) practices on board.
• Maintain liaison with classification societies, flag states and other regulatory authorities.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of experience as a technical superintendent, port engineer or technical manager in the maritime sector.
• Previous service as a chief engineer on offshore support vessels is preferred.
• Higher or secondary vocational education in mechanical engineering, naval architecture or a related field.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
