Stabilization Center Doctor

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a qualified physician to lead clinical services at the Nana Asma’u Stabilization Center in Yola, Nigeria. Reporting to the Nutrition Manager, the doctor will oversee the treatment of children with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and ensure high‑quality medical care in line with national and WHO standards.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership for the management of SAM with medical complications.
• Conduct comprehensive medical assessments, diagnose conditions, and prescribe therapeutic feeding (F‑75, F‑100) and medications.
• Monitor and manage co‑morbidities such as infections, dehydration, and anemia.
• Ensure proper use and stock management of therapeutic supplies (RUTF, F‑75, F‑100) and essential drugs.
• Implement the 10‑step inpatient SAM protocol and maintain accurate patient records.
• Collaborate with IRC nutrition staff, Ministry of Health workers, Nutrition Officers, and Nurses.

Required profile

• Medical degree with valid licensing to practice in Nigeria.
• Experience in pediatric nutrition, especially SAM management.
• Strong commitment to humanitarian principles, integrity, and transparent reporting.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and coordinate with local health authorities.

Required skills
