Sewage Treatment Plant Operator

About the role

Alaro City, a joint venture between Rendeavour and the Lagos State Government, is looking for a Sewage Treatment Plant Operator. The role covers maintenance and repairs of machinery, equipment and pipeline systems, and clearing sewers, so that sewage treatment infrastructure operates efficiently and safely in line with environmental regulations. Systems covered include sewage treatment plants, sewer reticulation lines, pumps, stabilization ponds and lifting stations.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake new connections, re-connections and minor extensions
• Supervise, operate and monitor control systems and related equipment according to standard operating procedures
• Carry out routine maintenance of sewerage infrastructure and record and maintain data, providing accurate reports, memos and presentations
• Repair malfunctions, breakages or leaks on piping systems, and install, secure, weld, assemble and lubricate moving parts
• Measure and cut pipes for new construction and maintenance projects
• Keep treatment systems in good working condition and ensure certification standards are met
• Diagnose and correct equipment faults, and carry out preventive maintenance
• Ensure compliance with regulations, promote safety and keep the plant clean and tidy

Required profile

• National Higher Diploma, Technical College degree or undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering (water), environmental science or a related field
• 3 to 5 years of proven experience in industrial-scale sewage treatment
• Ability to read blueprints and design drawings
• Hands-on experience operating and maintaining sewerage systems
• Knowledge of sewage treatment, wastewater treatment and collection principles
• Willingness to work in shifts and do overtime, and to live and work in Epe, Lagos

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Excel and interpretation of drawings
• Basic preventive maintenance and repair of machinery
• Good reporting, communication and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work with dangerous chemicals and heavy machinery, following health and safety guidelines
