Senior Resident Doctor/Senior Registrar - Diagnostics

About the role

The Senior Resident Doctor/Senior Registrar – Diagnostics will provide advanced medical care under consultant supervision, focusing on patient diagnostics and multidisciplinary teamwork. The role also includes mentoring junior residents and contributing to professional development within the residency program.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient interviews, examinations and order/interpret diagnostic tests (labs, imaging, biopsies) to establish accurate diagnoses.
• Rapidly assess and manage emergency situations, performing life‑saving procedures such as CPR and intubation.
• Participate in clinical audits, ensure compliance with regulatory standards and maintain accurate patient records.
• Advise patients and families, facilitate informed decision‑making and coordinate access to specialist services.
• Mentor junior residents, interns and medical students, leading case discussions and providing feedback on documentation.
• Contribute to departmental protocol development, service‑improvement initiatives and research activities in diagnostics.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MBBS/MBChB or equivalent) with a valid medical license and registration.
• Completion of at least four years of residency training in diagnostics.
• Membership in a relevant medical association (e.g., Nigeria Medical Association).
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose accurately, interpret investigations and apply evidence‑based treatment plans.
• Professional attitude, adaptability, proactive organization and commitment to patient‑centred care.

Required skills

• Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory analyses, imaging studies and biopsies.
• Perform emergency procedures such as CPR and endotracheal intubation.
• Guide junior team members in interpreting lab results, imaging and other diagnostic tools.
