Safety Officer – Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

About the role

The Safety Officer will develop, implement and maintain health, safety and environmental programs for a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. The role ensures compliance with GMP, NAFDAC and other regulations while fostering a proactive safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, enforce and update safety policies, procedures and programs aligned with GMP and NAFDAC requirements.
• Conduct regular safety inspections, risk assessments and hazard identification across production, warehouse and laboratory areas.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near‑misses, prepare reports and recommend corrective actions.
• Organise and deliver safety training and awareness sessions for all staff levels.
• Monitor proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including waste management and effluent control.
• Maintain accurate safety records, permits and documentation for audits.
• Participate in emergency preparedness planning and conduct fire, chemical spill and evacuation drills.
• Collaborate with Production, QA and Engineering to embed safety into daily operations.
• Perform job safety analyses for high‑risk activities and track safety KPIs.

Required profile

• B.Sc. or HND graduate with a Level 3 ISPON Certificate.
• 3–5 years of experience in a safety role, preferably within pharmaceutical or manufacturing environments.
• Strong knowledge of GMP, NAFDAC regulations and related occupational health and safety standards.
