Safety Officer

About the role

Medessy Enterprises Limited is seeking a Safety Officer to oversee the safety of its vehicle fleet and drivers within its shipping and logistics operations in Marina, Anambra. The role involves conducting inspections, monitoring compliance, and promoting a strong safety culture across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out daily and periodic safety inspections of vehicles, drivers and operational sites.
• Monitor driver behaviour, enforce road safety rules and report safety defects promptly.
• Investigate accidents, near‑misses and other incidents, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
• Conduct safety briefings, toolbox talks and training sessions for drivers and staff.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents and corrective actions, and prepare weekly/monthly safety reports for management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or HND in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Transport Management or related field.
• 2–3 years of experience in HSE, safety, transportation, logistics or fleet management.
• Professional certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH or ISPON is an advantage.
• Strong communication, observation and problem‑solving abilities, with the capacity to work under pressure.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word for safety reporting.
• Knowledge of road safety regulations, risk assessment and accident investigation procedures.
