Population and Data Specialist – Fixed Term (Abuja)

About the role

The Programme Management Specialist, Population and Data, leads UNFPA’s Policy, Population and Data Unit in Nigeria. Reporting to the Deputy Representative, the incumbent provides strategic policy leadership, evidence‑based advocacy and technical guidance to integrate population dynamics into national development planning.

Key responsibilities

• Lead high‑level policy dialogue with government ministries, parliamentarians, UN agencies and development partners to embed UNFPA priorities and the ICPD agenda into national strategies, plans and financing frameworks.
• Translate global and regional demographic frameworks into country‑specific evidence‑based advocacy messages, briefing notes, policy briefs and infographics.
• Support programme teams in tracking Nigeria’s commitments to global, regional and national frameworks related to population, SRHR and demographic change.
• Facilitate UNFPA’s interactions with the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning and other key stakeholders to promote data‑informed decision‑making.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in population data analysis, demographic intelligence and policy advocacy within a development context.
• Proven ability to work with senior government officials, multilateral donors, civil society and private sector partners.
• Strong understanding of UNFPA’s strategic objectives, the ICPD Programme of Action and the Sustainable Development Goals.
