Nutrition Nurse – Acute Malnutrition Management

About the role

The Nutrition Nurse will lead the management of acute malnutrition in a stabilization centre, delivering therapeutic feeding, medical treatment, and nutrition counselling to severely malnourished children. The role ensures adherence to national and international protocols while supporting the health team to maintain high‑quality services.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive medical examinations, monitor vital signs, and administer medicines according to protocol.
• Prepare and deliver therapeutic feeds and appropriate medications for children with severe acute malnutrition.
• Monitor daily nutritional status of patients and document progress.
• Provide nutrition counselling and health education to mothers and caretakers.
• Maintain adequate stock of drugs and nutrition supplies, ensuring timely pre‑positioning.
• Coordinate with the Stabilization Centre doctor and Nutrition Manager on operational issues.
• Ensure proper hand‑over of duties, update medical and nutritional records, and prepare daily ward round reports.
• Compile statistical data on admissions, outcomes, and generate activity reports.
• Support capacity building and technical guidance for staff in the Stabilization Centre and Outpatient Therapeutic Programme.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with a degree from a recognized nursing institute.
• Minimum two years of experience in Community‑Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) programmes.
• Valid and current nursing practice license.
• Excellent report‑writing abilities.
• Fluent in written and spoken English and the required national/local language.
• Commitment to the organization’s values and principles.
