Medical Laboratory Scientist – Pathology

About the role

The Medical Laboratory Scientist – Pathology provides accurate and timely diagnostic and therapeutic information through the performance and interpretation of laboratory tests. The role involves examining blood, bodily fluids, tissues and cells and communicating results to physicians and nursing staff to support effective diagnosis, treatment and disease prevention.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, label, process and store specimens such as blood, urine, sputum and biopsies while ensuring quality‑control checks.
• Perform a range of laboratory tests including complete blood counts, glucose, urinalysis, electrolyte panels, serology, immunochemical assays, PCR and other molecular diagnostics.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment (microscopes, analyzers, centrifuges) and conduct routine calibration and maintenance.
• Interpret test results, flag abnormal findings and deliver reports to requesting clinicians within stipulated timeframes.
• Ensure compliance with SOPs, safety protocols, patient privacy regulations and data protection laws.
• Carry out daily, weekly and monthly quality‑control procedures on reagents and instruments.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Pathology (Master’s degree preferred).
• 1‑4 years progressive experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
• Certification in clinical pathology is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, biochemistry and microbiology.
