Mechanical Technician – Hospital Facilities

About the role

The Mechanical Technician will ensure the smooth operation of the African Medical Centre of Excellence by maintaining and repairing critical mechanical systems. This full‑time, onsite position requires strong mechanical knowledge, a safety‑first mindset, and the ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on HVAC, plumbing, medical gas, elevator, pump, compressor, and building automation systems.
• Troubleshoot mechanical malfunctions, diagnose issues, and execute emergency repairs to minimise downtime.
• Conduct regular safety inspections, adhere to OSHA and hospital safety protocols, and implement corrective actions.
• Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment and support facility improvement projects.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and generate status reports for management.
• Provide prompt, courteous service to internal departments and maintain positive inter‑departmental relationships.

Required profile

• HND/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Mechanical Technician in a hospital, clinic, or similar commercial building.
• Relevant certifications such as HVAC or welding qualifications.
• Strong understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, thermodynamics and ability to read blueprints and schematics.
