Legal Officer

About the role

The Legal Officer will provide expert legal counsel to support the Bank’s operations, ensuring compliance with Nigerian banking regulations and safeguarding the institution’s interests in all transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Offer legal advice to management and staff on operational matters.
• Interpret and apply relevant laws, regulations, policies, and contractual obligations.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and vet contracts, memoranda, and other legal documents.
• Maintain a comprehensive repository of all legal agreements.
• Monitor compliance with Central Bank of Nigeria guidelines and other regulatory requirements.
• Manage litigation matters and coordinate external solicitors when needed.
• Support recovery of delinquent loans through demand notices and legal actions.
• Prepare legal documentation for Board and Management meetings.
• Identify and assess legal risks associated with the Bank’s activities.

Required profile

• Minimum B.Sc. degree.
• At least 2 years of experience in a similar legal role within banking or finance.

Required skills

• Legal drafting and contract negotiation.
• Regulatory compliance and risk assessment.
• Litigation management and coordination with external counsel.
