Environmental Health and Safety Manager

About the role

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager will ensure the hospital environment is safe, healthy, and compliant with all relevant regulations. This role involves developing safety protocols, conducting risk assessments, and leading emergency preparedness efforts to protect patients, staff, and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the EHS team, including safety officers, environmental specialists, and emergency preparedness coordinators.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive EHS strategy, policies, and procedures for risk management, hazard identification, and emergency response.
• Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
• Oversee waste management programs, including hazardous and biomedical waste disposal.
• Lead emergency preparedness planning, drills, and coordination with local emergency services.
• Manage the EHS budget, allocate resources, and ensure compliance with OSHA and EPA standards.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in operations and maintenance, with at least 5 years in a management role.
• Proven experience delivering large‑scale estates and facilities projects in a healthcare setting.
• Bachelor’s degree in environmental safety, occupational health and safety, or a related field (master’s degree advantageous).
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and drive continuous improvement.

Required skills

• Knowledge of LEED certification standards.
• Familiarity with ISO 14001 environmental management systems.
• Experience with OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001 occupational health and safety standards.
• In‑depth understanding of OSHA regulations.
• In‑depth understanding of EPA regulations.
