Curator - TEDxMaitama

About the role

TEDxMaitama is an independently organised TEDx platform that brings together innovators, entrepreneurs, professionals, researchers and thought leaders to share ideas that inspire meaningful conversation. The Curator shapes the intellectual direction, thematic identity and content quality of its programmes, leading speaker discovery, selection, development and editorial review. This is a volunteer leadership position, hybrid or remote, based in Abuja, Nigeria, with about 8-10 hours per week and a one-year appointment renewable by performance.

Key responsibilities

• Set the intellectual and editorial direction of events, turn themes into content narratives and ensure content meets TED and TEDx guidelines.
• Identify, research and recommend speakers, review applications and conduct preliminary interviews; build and maintain a speaker database.
• Work with Speaker Coaches to refine speakers' ideas, review outlines and scripts, coordinate rehearsals and give editorial feedback.
• Design balanced event programmes, recommend contributors and work with Events and Production teams.
• Contribute to annual conference, TEDxWomen, TEDxYouth and TEDxSalon initiatives.
• Monitor trends, research and underrepresented ideas, and build relationships with researchers, academics and industry experts.
• Review talk scripts for accuracy, flag commercial, political or religious conflicts and collaborate with Communications on descriptions and biographies.
• Lead the Curation and Programming team, coordinate meetings and document curation decisions.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Philosophy, Social Sciences, Arts, Sciences or a related discipline.
• 3-5 years of experience in content development, editorial management, research, programme development, public speaking or event curation.
• Experience working with speakers, subject-matter experts or thought leaders.
• Preferred: previous experience with TEDx, conferences or festivals, familiarity with TEDx content guidelines, speaker coaching or speechwriting experience, and professional networks across academia, business, technology, government and civil society.

Required skills

• Excellent writing, editing, research and communication skills.
• Strong understanding of storytelling, public speaking and presentation development.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines and stakeholders.
