About the role
The Clinical Clerk/Medical Coder ensures the accurate and efficient flow of patient information at the African Medical Centre of Excellence. This hybrid role blends administrative data entry with medical coding to support both clinical care and billing processes.
Key responsibilities
- Enter patient demographic and clinical data into the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Prepare, assemble, file, and retrieve patient medical records for appointments and procedures.
- Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and CPT codes to diagnoses, procedures, and services.
- Review medical records for completeness and compliance with coding guidelines.
- Participate in internal and external coding audits and stay current with coding updates.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration or a related field.
- At least 1 year of experience as a medical clerk or in a similar healthcare administrative role.
- Relevant certification such as Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is an advantage.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and NDPR data‑privacy regulations.
Required skills
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Ability to apply ICD-10-CM and CPT coding accurately.
- Excellent typing and data‑entry speed.
