About the role
The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) in Abuja is seeking a Cancer Registry Officer to support cancer research, surveillance and quality improvement. The role involves collecting, abstracting and maintaining comprehensive cancer case data in line with international registry standards.
Key responsibilities
- Identify and abstract data on all new cancer cases from medical records, pathology and physician reports.
- Enter abstracted data into the cancer registry database, ensuring accuracy, consistency and confidentiality.
- Conduct regular data quality reviews and generate reports on cancer incidence, trends and outcomes.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pathologists and other staff to obtain necessary information for case abstraction.
- Assist in data analysis to identify trends and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Medical Records, Public Health or a related field (preferred).
- 1–3 years of experience as a Cancer Registrar or in medical records/data entry.
- In‑depth knowledge of cancer registry principles, nomenclature and staging systems.
Required skills
- Proficiency with cancer registry software and databases.
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
