API Developer / IT Officer

About the role

The API Developer / IT Officer will co‑manage our API gateway and middleware platforms, ensuring secure, high‑performance integration between internal applications and external vendor services. You will work closely with front‑end teams and third‑party payment providers to accelerate delivery and maintain operational stability.

Key responsibilities

• Administer and configure API gateways (Kong, Apigee, WSO2, AWS API Gateway) in staging and production, creating routing, rate‑limiting, transformation and caching rules.
• Author OpenAPI 3.0 / Swagger specs, gRPC proto files and JSON/XML schemas, and host mock servers for front‑end consumption.
• Review vendor designs, perform technical acceptance testing, and conduct root‑cause analysis of API failures using tools such as Wireshark and Postman.
• Manage sandbox and production integrations for NIBSS, Interswitch, Unified Payments, card schemes and USSD platforms, building robust webhook processing with retry mechanisms.
• Enforce modern security standards (OAuth2, mTLS, HMAC, JWT) across all gateway endpoints.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years focused on API integration, middleware or fintech delivery.
• Prior experience in a CBN‑regulated bank, payment service bank or high‑volume fintech environment is an advantage.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with enterprise API gateways (Kong, Apigee, WSO2, AWS API Gateway).
• Deep knowledge of REST, gRPC, WebSockets, SOAP/XML, ISO 8583, ISO 20022 and payment webhook architectures.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language: Go, Java/Spring Boot, Node.js/TypeScript or Python.
• Advanced use of Postman/Newman, Swagger Editor, Charles Proxy, Wireshark, Datadog or ELK Stack for API observability.
