Senior Mining Engineer

About the role

This full‑time, on‑site position in Ebonyi State, Nigeria, is for a Senior Mining Engineer who will lead mine planning, development and production activities while ensuring strict safety and environmental compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and improve safety, health and environmental standards on the mine site.
• Develop mid‑to‑long‑range mining plans, pit and dump designs, and stockpile layouts.
• Prepare and manage planning schedules, capital and operating cost estimates, and project profitability evaluations.
• Supervise all production activities including dig‑and‑haul, drill‑and‑blast, and pit dewatering.
• Organise a two‑shift (day & night) production system and mentor mining staff.
• Participate in construction, expansion or modification projects on site.
• Review geological, hydrological and geotechnical models to optimise mining rates.
• Oversee geotechnical, soil and rock testing programmes and coordinate surveying activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering (Master’s degree advantageous).
• Minimum 9 years of mining experience, with at least 5 years in a senior or supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of open‑pit and/or underground mining methods and relevant legislation.
• Proven leadership, problem‑solving and communication abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with mine planning software such as SURPAC or DESWIK.
• Experience in cost estimation, equipment evaluation and technology assessment.
• Ability to develop pit designs, dump sequences and stockpile plans.
• Competence in geotechnical, soil and rock testing programmes.
• Surveying coordination related to mine production activities.
