Head of Insurance

About the role

The Head of Insurance will lead Dangote Industries Limited’s insurance strategy, overseeing the protection of assets across manufacturing, logistics, energy, infrastructure and corporate operations. Reporting to senior leadership, the role ensures effective risk financing, policy administration and compliance throughout the Group.

Key responsibilities

• Implement the Group’s insurance strategy, policies and risk transfer programmes.
• Manage insurance coverage for key business operations, including plants, logistics, energy and infrastructure assets.
• Oversee policy administration, renewals, claims management and relationships with insurers, brokers and reinsurers.
• Evaluate operational and strategic risks to secure cost‑effective insurance protection.
• Lead negotiations to obtain optimal coverage terms and pricing.
• Monitor claims trends, loss ratios and insurance performance, driving continuous improvement.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, corporate governance standards and internal policies.
• Provide insurance advisory support for major projects, contracts, investments and business expansion.
• Prepare insurance and risk reports for executive management and the Board.
• Support business continuity, crisis response and operational resilience initiatives.
• Collaborate with risk management, finance, legal, compliance and operational teams.
• Lead and develop the insurance team, promoting operational excellence and stakeholder engagement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in insurance, actuarial science or related field; postgraduate qualification or MBA is an advantage.
• Professional insurance certifications (e.g., ACII, FCII, AIIN, CPCU, IISA) preferred.
• Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in insurance, risk management, underwriting or claims administration.
• At least 5 years in a senior leadership or managerial role.
• Experience within manufacturing, oil & gas, logistics, infrastructure, energy or large conglomerates.
