About the role
The Fraud Desk Officer will monitor, investigate and report fraudulent activities across the bank’s operations, channels and customer transactions. Working closely with internal departments, the officer helps protect the bank’s reputation and financial assets while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor transactions and operations for red‑flags or unusual patterns indicative of fraud.
- Receive, review and escalate reported fraud incidents from staff, agents and customers.
- Conduct investigations into suspected fraud and prepare detailed reports with findings and recommendations.
- Collaborate with internal audit, risk, operations and IT to analyse incidents and identify process weaknesses.
- Maintain an up‑to‑date fraud register and report to management and regulators such as CBN and NDIC.
- Perform root‑cause analysis on fraud trends and suggest process or policy improvements.
- Support development and implementation of anti‑fraud strategies, tools and awareness campaigns.
- Participate in staff training on fraud detection, reporting channels and preventive measures.
- Liaise with law enforcement or legal advisors when required.
- Monitor digital channels (mobile banking, POS, internet banking) for suspicious activity.
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity of all fraud‑related data and investigations.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Banking & Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field.
- 2–4 years of experience in fraud desk operations, internal control, fraud investigation, risk management or audit within a financial institution, preferably a micro‑finance bank.
- Strong understanding of banking operations, micro‑finance systems, digital financial services and common fraud types.
