Environmental Compliance Officer – Construction Projects

About the role

The Environmental Compliance Officer will oversee all environmental aspects of construction sites in Lagos, ensuring that activities meet local regulations and company standards. This role is critical for protecting the environment while supporting project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and monitor site dust suppression, noise control, water discharge, and soil erosion measures.
• Record environmental performance, produce monthly compliance reports, and maintain a compliance log.
• Manage construction waste segregation, storage, and disposal through licensed contractors, keeping accurate transfer records.
• Control concrete washout areas to prevent waste entering drainage or open ground.
• Monitor fuel and chemical storage for leaks, respond to spills, and coordinate spill remediation.
• Escort regulatory inspectors, facilitate site inspections, and address any compliance notices.
• Report non‑compliance immediately to the HSE Manager and Project Director.
• Assist the environmental consultant with post‑construction compliance documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least four years (48 months) of experience managing environmental compliance on construction projects in Nigeria.
• Strong knowledge of Nigerian environmental standards and construction‑specific environmental management requirements.

Required skills

• Knowledge of applicable environmental regulations and standards.
• Experience conducting regulatory site inspections and handling compliance notices.
• Proficiency in waste management, spill response, and environmental monitoring techniques.
